To be honest Proc, my ideas about it were the same as yours! It was only when I lost my first pet and decided no, I didn't want him buried, that I looked into it ... you imagine all kinds of things but in all honesty, I find it a lot "nicer" than a crem for a person ... it's not OTT, it's just how you want it to be .. just a nice quiet goodbye to a friend.
  • I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your beautiful Tiger was a fabulous looking cat and I have such a soft spot for our ginger boys.... No, I haven't ever attended a pet cremation but our last vets practice in the S.East used CPC and the staff who looked after us & our furries were just lovely. So respectful, obviously all animal lovers themselves and very sympathetic. So I think Tiger will be in safe, kind hands. As for travelling there, I see they're near Royston, so I hopefully by train would be fairly straightforward? Double check with National Express though, they'd certainly be cheaper.

My sympathies to you and your family.

Thanks everyone for your kind words - I think between myself and my daughter's boyfriend.. we almost managed to convince her to give up on that idea. Also due to some replies on here, I was never in favour for this myself and now perhaps she will give on the idea too....I feel this would be too traumatic, and she would be relieving loosing Tiger again, she is crying so much....

Brought 2 kittens home today, although one is a ginger.. even my dog knows those are different kitties and will never replace him as such but house was so empty without a kitty...

My daughter seems to feel that getting attached to them is betraying Tiger - she is only 20 and really loved that cat very, very much...

    Time, we all need time....

Zara (my GS dog) is watching over the 2 kitties like a good auntie as they sleep now....

    Introducing Geaorge and Harry...

    What cute kittens.

I've dealt with CPC through several vets, although I've never personally attended a cremation, my pony was cremated by them, and the young lady who had him on loan at the time he died was with him and has nothing but good words to say about them.

I've passed the site several times, and it has a lovely burial area as well as a memorial garden, although there is no hiding the 'utilitarian nature' of the buildings, it's very welcoming.

The only thing is, if finances are limited, it's not easy to get to - again, the nature of the business means it's not in a town or city and would be tricky to get to by public transport (and taxi would be expensive)

I hope your daughter now has her memories to console her and these two little poppets to keep her occupied.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input in this thread...

A lovely man from CPC called me today to arrange date/time for Tiger's cremation, I have asked him to assure my daughter that it will be Tiger's ashes we are getting back even if we do not attend which he very skilfully did, this was a big concern for my daughter...

So we are not going to CPC, we will collect the urn with Tiger's ashes from our vet where they wil be returned to this friday evening.

Thanks a lot agan for all your support...very much appreciated.

And something a bit more cherful.... never a replacement for Tiger but the 2 babies settled in so well- Zara thinks they are hers (her babies) and guards them with all her little heart and power.. was not happy when neighbours came over to see the kitties even....

Tiger and Zara were such good friends, I guess she is happy to have new frinds at home too - and who sais cats and dogs do not get on?

    Aww - she's a beautiful girly.

I always found the collection of the ashes to bring everything back again, so don't be surprised if it all goes pear shaped again. I find it a great comfort to know my babies are back with me - even though I had planned to bury their ashes in the garden, they now sit on top of my bookcase, where I know they are there, in the warm.
