OU - ECA extensions

Options
Does anyone know what is considered special enough circumstances for the OU to allow an extension for the ECA?

I've read the vague info sheet and feel no more the wiser really. I feel I have special circumstances but I know they are much stricter with the ECA than TMAs. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Hi i dont think they have a set list of what is considered to be special circumstances but they will look at how it has affected you and your previous grades to see if it has had an affect. I think it would then go to a board to see if they will approve the circumstances. If in doubt then caontact milton keynes or your regional centre who should be able to offer you help and support.

I actually did a presentation today at MK as part of my MSc earlier today, one girl never came as she had special circumstances due to the death a close relative.

I understand from talking to lecturers today special circumstances would be the death of a close relative, an unexpected personal event such as a divorce or being made homeless, being seriously ill during the exam (like me - i collapsed) or being too ill to sit the exam.

When you fill in the form it asks for evidence of your circumstances as well so even though I fell ill in the middle of a presentation in front of OU examiners I will still need evidence that I have a medical condition or I will not be granted special circumstances.

If you feel you may need an extension for your ECA you need to contact them now. The earlier you contact the OU about your problems the more sympathetic they're likely to be and at least then you'll have an answer.
It's always better to try to sort things out before a deadline rather than get to the deadline then try to get an extension.
