An elderly member of my family has received an invoice, ‘paid in full’, from:

E-Direct Ltd, Suite 31, Don House, 30-38 Main Street, Gibraltar
Phone: 0203 434 0450 Fax: 0203 434 0455
info@e-direct.co.uk info@pcsupport.me.uk

For:

“Purchase of PC Support services which also includes registering your phone number onto TPS and sending your phone number to all Indian call centres so that they no longer place any sales calls to your home. This can take a few months to filter through properly. 29.99

Holiday in Bangkok which consists of 3 days/2 nights in 4 star accommodation with sightseeing tours, etc that are details in the accompanying literature. 300.00

Credit for holiday package 300.00”

Needless to say the person in question hasn’t got a PC.

The company's web site is www.e-direct.co.uk (there is also www.pcsupport.me.uk). Has anyone else encountered these people before ?

  • Are the invoices, etc in their name; and have they had any money taken from their bank accounts?

The name's incorrectly spelt, and there's no corresponding payment on the latest statement (but the invoice post-dates the statement).

NB The account has recently been the subject of several fraudulent transactions probably originating from outside the UK - since refunded by the bank - and is in the process of being closed.

Also: i) www.e-direct.co.uk has a holding home page which simply says "Website under Maintenance", ii) WHOIS shows that the domain was registered less than a fortnight ago (20-Sep-2010), and, iii) Companies House for Gibraltar (www.companieshouse.gi/) appears to offer subscription-only access to its online registry of names.
  • My Dad got a phone call from this company e-direct.co.uk and they charged him 300 quid then he received a holiday letter from them for 6days/7nights to Bangkok. It seemed Dodgy deal and i gave a call on their customer service to see if they are genuine because a package as such costs 800 or so. so i spoke with them and they assured this is a genuine package. My dad is going end of october to bangkok and on friday he received another confirmation of his booking at Amari Watergate which is a 5-star hotel. I found their website on google and called the Hotel in Bangkok to check whether the room is actually booked on my dads name and the hotel reservation confirmed it. So it seems a real cheap deal.

Of course he is, and you have absolutely nothing to do with the company.

It since transpires that the envelope containing the invoice was postmarked 'Coleraine', which if it's the one in Northern Ireland isn't very adjacent to Gibraltar.

Also, if anyone can't resist the allure of the other web site, 'PC Support', "These Site Terms are governed by and will be interpreted in accordance with the laws of the REPUBLIC OF SEYCHELLES ..." (www.pcsupport.me.uk/legal.html)
