AA 3year fixed rate account

You are currently listing this account as a best buy (purely on the interest rate) I opened an account and began transferring money in on the website. I inadvertantly made a deposit for 3 days time and realised I had made an error. No problem, the 'pending' transactions paragraph assured me that if I phoned the helpline before 15.00 on the day before the transaction, it could be modified or cancelled. The lady on the phone cancelled the transaction, confirmed her action and it vanished from the 'pending' list.
Unfortunately, the transaction went ahead leaving me financially embarassed. The helpline went all coy and would do nothing for me, not even apologise, we had the first lady's name but they closed ranks and said cancellations cannot be guarranteed - not what the web message said. So I cannot touch the money transferred for 3 years and am very unhappy with the service. I agree that the error was mine initially but why go through a charade of providing a service and then reneging on it.:(

  • Your post suggests that you were "pulling" funds into AA (via their website, using Direct Debit), rather than "pushing" them (via the source's website, using Faster Payments or BACS). Direct Debits have to be "requested" by the "pulling" institution 2 working days before the "effective date" (which is why the earliest "effective date" is always 2 days later than "today" when you set up such a transaction). It couldn't be possible to cancel the day before the transaction is to be effected - the DD request would have been made the previous day.

so the moral is. Dont pull too quickly because your deposit will come too quick dont belive the lady on the phone with the DD, and you cant withdraw it for 3 years by which time you will lose interest.

Completely off topic but where in NW is your holiday home. I fancy having my own place in NW but not a caravan.
