Ref unwanted prizes

with reference to the recent posting by Glad.

i totally agree with the not selling, links to ebay etc.but i dont agree with the not giving away items that can not be used for whatever reason to fellow mse'rs.
our personal details are sent to every competition entered, hense why we all receive loads of spam and junkmail.normally when things are passed on you pm them your email address or on rare occasions your address.(my address is listed in the phonebook so not exactly a secret).

i know rules are there for a reason but maybe some common sense can be applied and the decision whether to share wins can be left to the individual.
i have gratefully received and given tickets away and hope to continue to do so if i cant make the event.

this is my opinion and may not be shared by others.:D

I agree entirely. I can see no reason for this "rule". Frequently with competitions to win tickets for events etc, winners only receive notice the day before or sometimes on the day itself. The only justification for this rule that I have thus far seen is that the site have a "duty to protect the members". As a mature adult, I think I am quite capable of protecting myself and deciding whether to give out my personal details to others if they are prepared to offer tickets etc for a prize that they themselves cannot enjoy. The only second justification is that some t& c's expressly forbid the transfer of prizes. In that event clearly the prizes should not be transferred. However, I have won several prizes where the promoter has indicated their complete consent to someone else attending the event.

I hope that the MSE administration may revisit this rule, and amend it. At my time of life, I don't need a nanny state culture and furthermore, if I win a prize and the promoter is happy for me to transfer it, I consider myself free so to do.

    :)
  • i whole heartedly agree :)

i too have posted tickets and vouchers onto people off of mse xx if i am fortunate enough to win something but have the misfortune of not attending i'd like to think i could pass on my win onto a fellow comper.

after all it's because of you guys that we do win xxx

i understand why mse doesn't want us to post personal details etc and think it should be applauded that the powers that be are just trying to make sure none of us get burned.

love and luck to all xx

    I agree with l.m.hart completely. ;)

Prohibiting users from giving unwanted prizes publicly will only encourage things to be done privately. This in turn opens up a completely different issue.

I personally would be more concerned at the use of my personal details by the numerous number of companies I choose to give them to every day when entering competions than a known fellow comper. :)

    I agree with this too.

I can see that mse is trying to protect us and its good that it is a responsible sight but surely its up to us as individuals if we choose to give our details to another mse'r.
There is nothing worse than winning tickets to something, not being able to go and them going to waste. We all put in a lot of time entering comps and I always feel if I can't use a win I would like someone else on here to have it.

If it wasn't for everyone else on here none of us would have anywhere near as many comps to enter in the first place.

I thought I was the only one who thought the rule sucked :p

Well said, just as much pleasure can be gained from giving a prize to someone else who will enjoy it as winning for yourself.

    P.S thanks l.m.hart :)

Totally agree with all above statements,i have on numerous occassions sent wins to people in the post, or email addresses, selling or exchanging completeley agree with being a no-no but a freebie, shouldnt that be our own personal choice to give our very limited details out to each other which most times is just an email address, or a name change on held tickets.
I gave away a dfds cruise yesterday in secret as didnt want to get in trouble, just randomnly picked someone i knew hadnt one. did post another giveaway on here but encoded it slightly had no replys though. and just tonight have asked for a prize redraw as my wife cant make an event on monday in manchester as she has had dermal fillers and crowns done today(previous win,no im not rich) would have liked to give it away on here. hope mse towers realise this as the last thing any of uas wants is to be told off or banned for GIVING away an unwanted prize.
My poor 15 yr old daughter broke her wrist i 5:eek: places tonight poor little mite was screaming in agony, all casted temp now and fingers crossed no surgery needed to fix.
    get well soon honey .

I do understand why there is a rule against disclosing personal details to each other, but I find it quite contradictory when from this site we post what seems like our inside leg measurement to people/companies with a prize on offer.

The code that I just put up was an online code, no personal details required. Rather like a shopping voucher.

I'm not trying to ruffle any MSE feathers when I say this, but ToniQ's overwhelmingly large gesture in the form of a laptop which was received by Easter was featured by the lovely Martin as a heartwarming and inspirational gesture (which it was), but one which required at the very least the passing of personal details in order for the laptop to be delivered/received. How rude of me lol!!!!

I understand it either way, but would prefer the right to make an informed decision if the circumstances arose.

Although I agree that we disclose alot of personal info when entering comps, and I have to admit to being a culprit when it comes to giving/receiving unwanted prizes:o the rule is not for the comping board specificly. The personal info rule relates to the whole forum. Would we rather a rule like that existed and we still had a forum, or the forum ( inc comps board ) be taken away ?
Honestly, i think the rule sucks. However, it has been pointed out politely on more than one occasion and now made into a sticky.
Although I hate the rule I understand why it is in place.
When I typed this there were 2493 users on line. Are all of them legit ? Can you trust them all ? The aim of the rule is to keep people safe. I do not see why, if you can not use a prize , you could not offer it back to the promoter to re-draw? Someone is still getting a win , right ? You may not know them but you have still made their day !

AND if you don't like that idea, offer it to your friends via F/B or twitter, that breaks no forum rules !

Happy Comping & good Luck all
