selling and going on holiday

Would you go on a two week holiday and leave your house empty whilst you were in the middle of selling it?
I want to go on holiday but OH thinks that when we are away is the time our perfect buyer will turn up and want to view the house.
We are doing the viewings ourself and just using a solicitor for the legal stuff.
We are in Scotland

Can't you just leave keys with the EAs for the two weeks? Or do you mean you're doing the whole sale yourself, not just the viewings?
If Scotland, are you doing a fixed price, or offers over? If the latter, you need to set a date anyway to choose a buyer from bids, don't you, so couldn't this just be extended 2 weeks? If fixed price, I suppose I'd make my decision on how long it had been on the market for and how much interest there'd been.
Maybe just go away for a week this time...

Well. Lets see. If you go away you'll not be able to do viewings so you won't find a buyer during this period.
On the other hand, you'll have a nice holiday.
So? Which is more important to you?0 -
Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone with my house keys/"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

My daughter can do the viewings but they would have to phone for an appointment as she lives a fair bit away.
Buyers at present can just pop in if they are passing, without an appointment.0 -
If you're thinking about going on holiday in the middle of trying to sell your house it appears that you're not that serious about selling it at all. I agree with your OH: why not take a break once it is sold?0

How many people just pop into a house for sale they happen to be passing? Just get your daughter to do the viewings by appointment. Based on this your never leave the house just on the off chance someone happened to be passing and fancied buying your house.0 -

Many in Scotland.
I love the system, you see what places are available in the area you want to buy and thursday evenings and sunday afternoons you just go round as many places you want during certain hours.
no faffing about with appointments...
I wish there was that system in England0 -

I'm afraid this is pure waffle.
Closing dates are only declared once there's sufficient interest in a property, not as a matter of course.....0 -

Ideal for sightseeing viewers, less useful for sellers to find serious buyers.
Relaxing for you, stressful for the sellers.
Last time I sold, I did Thurs evening/Sunday afternoon open viewings, and there were a few weeks of answering the door at 7pm to let the first viewers in, showing them round, then when I was as far away from the front door as I could be, hearing the doorbell go again, to be answered by OH, then shortly after that the door goes again, and again, till eventually four or five separate viewer groups were milling around a two-bed flat. Totally unmanageable, and I'll never be doing that again.
It'll be appointments in advance next time I sell.
Trouble is, people like this poster EXPECT it to be done this way by everyone, and even those who are viewing by appt find that members of the public turn up, unannounced, on Thursdays and Sundays and expect to be invited in.0 -
go on holiday, might be years before it sells!0
