Hi
I work full time and am on a salary of £18.5 K, my husband has recently been diagnosed with a few illnesses and will be unable to work for the foreseable future.
We have 2 children at primary school and rent our home privately. We currently get Child Benefit and Child tax credits of £67.00 per week.
Today we have applied for housing & council tax benefit and I have informed the tax credits people that my husband is no longer working.
What else do i need to do?
Is he entitled to anything from the Job Centre? (he will not be seeking work)
Thanks in advance

Im sure someone will correct me if im wrong but i think on a salary of 18k per annum you earn too much to qualify for LHA or CTB.
Your income would prevent your husband from getting Income based benefits but if he has enough NI contributions for qualifying tax years he could make a claim for contributions based ESA.
Also if your husbands illnesses have resulted in him having care needs he could apply for DLA.
Thats all i can think of.0 -
As above really.
On an income of £18.5k I doubt very much you would be entitled to any HB and CTB. If your current tax credits are based on you and your husband income, it should increase as he is no longer working.
To apply for DLA, your husband would have to have had his care/mobility needs for atleast 3 months and they would have to be expected to continue for atleast another 6. Does this apply?
Contribution based benefits are probably you're best bet.0
