I am taking redundancy at the end of Dec and need to know if I claimed contribution based jobseekers how long before i can make the claim because i have taken the redundancy, how much am i allowed in savings as the web sites dont say anyting about savings for contribution job seekers just the income based. Obviously I am looling for work so hopefully wont need to make a claim but I need to know the worst case.

Contribution based Jobseekers is based on national insurance contributions in the two complete tax years preceding the year of your claim and is paid regardless of any savings/assets you might have. These are only taken into account when claiming Income-based Jobseekers where benefits are means tested. Hope this helps.

It's worth adding that if it unfortuantely came to six months out of work and no job, income based JSA can look back and see whether you "frittered" redundancy pay away. Might be worth checking up on all the rules whether they apply or not to know where you stand. Hopefully it won't be knowledge you need, but there is nothing worse than knowledge after the event!

You can claim straightaway. You will not be sanctioned for taking VR.
    Gone ... or have I?
