How to Get Stuff from Sky+ to a dvd recorder?

Hello,

As you came to my rescue when I last had a tech problem, I thought I would try again as the instruction booklet I'm trying to use might as well be written in Klingon.

How do you transfer programmes that you've recorded on Sky+ onto a recordable dvd?

I spoke to someone at sky ages ago and they said that it was a really easy way to increase space as you're moving it off the box. I have recordable DVD which we are able to use to record programmes, but there are some films and other programmes which are already on the box which we want to transfer.

A- Is this possible?
B - How? (In a general way of course, I know you do not know the ins and outs of my DVD system, but surely they're similar  )

Any help or suggestions most appreciated as I bought this recorder nearly a year ago and I still can't figure it out.

  • Ok - I don't know if Sky+ boxes have some kind of blocker that stops the outgoing signal being recorded onto a device like a DVD recorder, but this is the way I'd do it:

For this, I'm presuming your Sky+ box is plugged into one scart socket at the back of your telly, and your DVD recorder is plugged into another scart socket at the back of your telly.

Take the Sky+ scart lead out of the back of your TV, and plug it into a scart INPUT on the back of your DVD Recorder (it will say input next to it, or have a picture of an arrow pointing INTO a box).

Turn your TV to the usual channel you turn it to to watch DVDs on your recorder.

Find the button on your DVD recorder (or its remote control) that changes between inputs on the DVD recorder...if it's anything like mine, on-screen you will see AV1, then AV2, then AV3 as you cycle through them. When you reach the channel that shows your Sky+ box signal, stop pressing!

Play your programmes from the Sky+ box as normal, whack a DVD into the recorder, and hit record! Simple as that! Don't stop the playing on the Sky+ box though!

Lastly, when it's recorded, put the cable you moved back into the back of the telly. Bob's your uncle!
  • Okay, that makes sense. Off to have a go now. If my book explained it that simply I'd have done it ages ago, but it annoyingly goes on about Jpegs etc.

Thanks a lot for that suggestion. :D

  • My pleasure. Not sure why it's banging on about JPEGs - that's nothing to do with recording video. Very odd.

At home, I have wires running between every device in the front room...it's drives my OH nuts - she hasn't a clue how to use it!

If you need any more help, by all means PM me...

I actually think that in the sky plus planner you can press the 'red' button to 'transfer' a recording. No need to unplug your sky+ from the tv as the sky+ has 2 scart outputs, just connect the second one to the DVD recorder input.
  • I was thinking that - but then it would require an extra scart lead...was thinking to work with the tools I know they had!
