How they can only reduce benefits by 9 billion (benefits which account for over 30% of public sector expenditure) when defence is taking a ribbing for 3-4 billion and accounts for only 1/20th of the benefits billis beyond me.

Speaking of the dole and benefits.

I've got a friend of a friend on my Facebook.
She's an unmarried mother. She's been given a 2 bedroom flat. She's just had another baby. The dads around but doesn't live with her. Well, he does but she claims he doesn't. You know the score.

Anyway, I was amazed to see this morning that she's bought an I phone and Ps3 for her other kid. It's his christmas presents????

I'm not a bitter sort of chap but how can that be right?

She's going to get a decent house and has better toys than most workers.
I want an I phone myself. I was thinking about buying one last week and decided to wait until pay day.

    A question.

All the crash gang. Why don't they just go the council house/pregnant route if they want a house?

    Easy option.

Are you joking? Do you know how hard it is to get a council house these days unless you belong to certain "vunerable" groups.

What, like be a Labour voter?

BTW, anyone see newsnight last night? If it turns out the Labour party rigged various seats, someone senior needs to go to jail and they need a re-vote. THeyare talking that 3, possibly more seats were rigged thanks to the asian community using "elders" to collect voting slips for individuals and then casting postal votes away from what was expected.

You would cringe if you heard about this in a third world country, never mind our own country.

I cant wait for the detail.......

Very interesting times ahead me thinks

Shame about the not many jobs about thing though

Funny that. Weren't we told by the Lib Dems just a few weeks ago that there can be no cap on immigration since they are needed to fill so many vacancies in the UK? If that is the case, there must be jobs?

I have a system for benefits that will sort it out without any issue, and is simple as pie to implement.

You are only able to claim in benefits up to a maximum of what you have put into the system in Income tax and NI contributions. All child related benefits are linked to parental income.

This is what I call a NO PAY NO PLAY system.

IDS has had this idea bouncing around for a long time. I'd be suprised if it happens, and working within the benefits system even if it does, it'll take years and years to come in. In example, look at how long it will take to transfer all the incapacity claimants over to employment support allowance (2 years minimum, & there are only 1.4million of them).

The thing with benefits, is for the system to be fair, it has to take into account the context of the claimant. That is why a one size fits all benefit won't work.

You'd be far far better off improving the training & therefore quality of the staff, reducing fraud & error in the system, and making it harder for fraudulent claims to be made & continued with.

I also agree with neverdespairgirls post above - working has to be made to pay.
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

And what about carers and the long term disabled (yes, the real disabled) who are not able to work due to circumstances?
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
