After reading this weeks newsletter from Martin I am interested in this http://www.homephonechoices.co.uk/article.asp?id=primus-exclusive-line-rental&partner=mse.

When switching home phone companies, do I have to ring my old suppliers to cancel or can I do it online?

Or, does the new company I am moving to contact my old suppliers like the utilities?

Do I do it before I make the switch, or afterwards?

I dont want any salespeople trying to get me to stay with them.

Thank you

I found out I can switch online, but I have two different companies providing my calls and line rental

I have talktalk providing my calls and BT providing my rental.

Would I still be able to switch online?

    Many thanks

If you are leaving your line rental with BT, just contact your new CPS calls provider. There is no need for you to contact your existing CPS calls provider (Talk Talk) or BT.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

You can leave it up to your new supplier to process the migration and then your old "losing" supplier should be notified and act on that.

However this comes up a fair bit on here. If that bit goes wrong and the losing supplier isn't notified (or claims that they were not notified) you remain contractually liable to keep paying them.

But if you're just moving calls, then it shouldn't matter much since no calls will be made with the losing supplier post changeover - so there is nothing to pay the losing supplier anyway.

I have a call plan charge with talk talk, but am not in any contract with them. What do I do if they keep charging me the call plan charge?

    Many thanks

    Refuse to pay them?

    Hi bundance,

If you call the Retentions Team on 0870 444 1820 they can ensure the call plan is cancelled. NOt paying may result in collections action being undertaken so this is not advisable. The account should close at the point you migrate anyway, but as a precaution if there are any issues the etentions team is the relevant team to process the disconnection for you.
