Moving away to find a new job

Hi there,

I'm currently unemployed and on JSA at the moment however I've been offered a job (within my industry) that requires moving to another location (about 300 miles away). I'm happy to do this however obtaining the funds for rent/deposit and living for the month before I get paid will require about £800-£1000.

I'm wondering if there is any help that I can obtain to make this move a reality! I've exhausted a lot of avenues already, I'm under 25 so I don't get certain benefits and I've only been on JSA for 2 months, which doesn't qualify me for other benefits.

The official advice is for me to more or less sit unemployed for 6 months and then I'll qualify for additional help, but I really just want to get back to work!

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

when my husband changed jobs he went from weekly to monthly pay.
the company he went to work for 'subbed' him a portion of his wage and took it back over the following 6 months.
cant hurt to ask and good luck!

You may get help with the deposit if the local council offers a rent guarantee scheme. They pay the deposit and you pay it back over the next year. You wont get any help with the first months rent though. Are you in rented accomodation just now? If so borrow the rent money of a family member and pay them it back once you get your old deposit back
  • Haven't any answers but just want to say good luck with your new job.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Many thanks for your kind words and well wishing :)

I'll ask my new employer, they can only say no! I've not got a kids or a partner so thankfully I won't need to travel back and forth like your Husbands did! I can only imagine how much that took out of him!

I'll ask my parents however I'm just a little frustrated that I'm looking to get back into employment and there is no official help!
