Defaults, Credit Reference Files, Credit Scores - what's it all about?

Options
Hi there.

Some years ago, though being stupid and argumentative with various financial institutions, I managed to end up with 6 defaults on my credit file. As these defauts were actually all over disputed accounts (bar one). I then went through the long drawn out process of trying to get them removed.

It has taken some years but as it stands, I have removed 5 out or the success with I consider a bit of a triumph in itsellf. I now have one outstanding default that is actually six years spent in February 2012, so I only have just over a year to go before it is off. I have not missed a pament on any of my 7 accounts for about three years, and am soon going to be looking for a mortgage.

This post is more of an open statement with a request for advice and experiences that are recent - in relation to defaults and the like, especially relating to credit reference agencies. My credit score (which I know is only and indicator) with experien (Credit Expert) is showing as 900 - Good - I have all the plus points on it and it seems to ignore the remaining default a a negative point - when I queried this with them the guy on the phone told me that he had never seen anyone with a default, satisfied or unsatisfied having a score that high - anyone else comment on their national creit score?

Who thinks the default system as it stands is completely unfair? - in my case, and I am guessing with many others, if you dispute the anount that a company is asking for then they can default you - it records that you have defaulted your account but unfortunately does not show that this is due to the fact that you had an honest belief that they were requesting the incorrect amount. If the company makes a CCJ claim against you and you it is awarded againist you - if you pay this within a 28 day period, it does not even show as having being granted - so a court finds that you were in the wrong and that you do owe money yet if you pay it within 28 days - nobody will ever know despite the fact that you were delinquent. But if you owe someeone £100 and they ask for £200 and you dispute the amount, they are able to default your account without a second thought and you are screwed for six years - where is the logic.

The whole system is floored and seems to punish people for standing up for their rights and not being conned by all these companies. Don't get me wrong, I suppose that there are many peple wo do default and this should be shown but I am not one of them.

Sorry for the long and somewhat dissjointed post - comments and answers to some of the questions would be appreciated.

Thanks.
