change of tyre size

my car needs a couple of new tyres, it has fancy alloy wheels and these have got big tyres. Can i go from a 225 section to a 205 sectioneasily on these same wheels.

Depends how wide the wheels are. If they are 7.5" I think it will be ok, but not if they are 8" wide. Thats off the top of my head though, so might not be correct. Best to check with your local tyre place...

Remember that you'd also need to change the "height" of the tyre which is a percentage of the width. A 225/50 is about the same as a 205/55.

Why would you want to go to narrower tyres,cost?,most people want to fit wider ones,there are several factors involved,i would keep the same size,think of when you sell, it may cause suspicion.if you must do it go to a decent tyre supplier for advice.

I agree with the above poster, if your car has 225 as standard, you would be best sticking with that. If you get the size wrong, then your speedo could give an incorrect reading. Changing the width of tyre also affects the section height (profile) and this will have to change as well to keep the rolling radius the same.
