Powerflush & magnaclean

Been quoted £777 for a powerflush for 10 radiators and magnaclean by BG. Is this a fair quote? Insisted they did a water test for the powerflush they did today with fernox and am now expecting the results. Anybody had one done before and what to expect from the results? Magnaclean on its own will cost approx £250. Thanks

Good evening: price is OTT.What is the context? See other posts on this forum for more on this scenario. Further advice is available here.

a few months ago i remember reading in these forums about the BG powerflush, can't remember what was said but remeber it was quite negative, might be worth it to do abit of searching in the forum. There are products on the market which you can use to clean out the central heating pipes, £50 roughly so £777 is abit steep i think you could probably get a plumber to relay new pipes for about that!0

Magnaclean is usually around £150-£180 fitted. BG powerflush is always nearly twice the cost on an independent doing it, but BG guarantee theirs for life.
Up to you to decide.0 -
Gtee is for life of system.... depends on how long you think you’re going to keep it... Allot of these lifetime guarantee are worthless as many only last as long as parts are available (often that’s only five years) lots of terms about who can and can’t or even if any work at all can be carried out without make gtee void read the small print…Personally think your wasting your money0

British gas are more expensive with almost everything they do , we have just had a new boiler fitted, powerflush and magniclean and one new radiator, £2200. Exactly the same from british gas was £3800.
The blokes who fitted it worked for BG and did it on a weekend, it was still checked over by independent persons to make sure everything was done correctly.

There is a marked difference between a powerflush and a £50 chemical treatment,
Powerflush involves draining the system and (for a good powerflush) 6 or 7 hours of cleaning, followed by chemical treatment to protect the system. The varying prices are often dictated by the time an engineer spends cleaning the system, if the machine runs for an hour it's a power flush if the machine runs for 6 hours it's a powerflush, the question is which is better?0 -

If the fitters work for British gas and did your work for you at the weekend then they would have no public liability insurance, no individual gas safe registration, and maybe even could have used some British gas materials. With that in mind is it any wonder the installation was cheaper?0 -
As I said it was all checked over. And everything was bought by the fitters.0

my guess is directly employed, otherwise it wouldnt need to be "checked over".
I bet they didnt buy the powerflush machine.
In my humble opinion this is at very least "dodgy" and at worst illegal.:(0
