Is it OK to buy a 75-years old house

In Japan people prefer new houses and don't like second hand ones. OP is perhaps from somewhere with a similar philosophy! Otherwise it might be a joke.0

I assume OP must be foreign, I remember once looking at a house abroad that was described as old because it was built in 1989 and they thought I might not want it because of that :rotfl:. I guess our homes must be pretty unique in a global sense and if they were built out of wood they probably wouldn't last that long (but they would be cheaper...)0

I once bought a 16th century grade II listed cottage, strangely enough it is still standing!! as is my current house built in 1836. :rotfl:0

OP, we love old houses in this country, you're clearly not originally from the UK.
As long as the house is structurally sound (which your survey will confirm) then you'll have no problem selling it in 25 years.
I've just had my offer accepted on a stunning 90 year old house, the original features of the house are part of the charm and I can't wait to move in.0 -
This sounds like a foreigner posting to me. It's not a posting from somebody in England.
The language is all wrong. Guessing American.0 -
My parents' house was built in 1320.
The newest place I've ever lived in is my current flat, which is mid-1920s....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
How many first-time buyers buy FOUR bedroom properties?0

A fair few. We shall, for example....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I prefer older houses they have more character and usually although not always more solid
Of course and older house will need maintenance than a newer house ie pointing, damp course maybe, roof (100+ years)
I live in a 1930's house and its great lots of room and solid as a rock
You need building and contents insurance same with new house. Also set money aside for maintenance but they dont normally need that much and things like painting can be done by yourself you get maintenance with any house just as it gets older it may need it sooner it depends on its condition0
