A tricky issue: A colleague who doesn't wash her hands

  • What an awful situation. Having said that I agree with the other posters about problems with which soap it is. I cannot use the alcohol based hand wash as I seem to be allergic to it, my hands dry out and crack and using hand cream makes no difference.

Would it not be possible to leave one bar of soap in a little container in there?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

Oh come on, if this was anyone else they would have brought their own etc so that they could wash their hands, they wouldn't just not wash their hands everytime they go. (presuming that the OP is not mistaken)

At the price I pay for soap - personally I grimace and use managements cheap drying soap and am not at all happy about having to use such "cheap muck". I've certainly thought of taking my own soap in - so I can use some decent stuff - but at about £7 a bottle for containers of handwash soap I'm certainly not leaving mine somewhere where I know everyone else would use it too and I would hardly get a look in on my own property (and no - it wouldnt work to put a label on it with my name on - people would still steal bits of it).

The point is I guess is that you still wash your hands though whether it is with the cheap stuff or not.

I've had to put those signs up 'Now please wash your hands' in our loos as I noticed one or two people just leaving (men, of course). It seemed to do the trick.

I also had to put a sign up in the kitchen about washing up properly as I was sick about taking cups with lipstick on out of the cupboard!

    Some people are just disgusting.

  • There could be religious grounds for not using an alcohol based gel.

Why "men of course"? Is it because you are a man and so only see if men wash their hands?

How is it that you KNOW she isn't washing her hands? Have people actually been in there with her when she has walked straight out? If not, then I agree with the others that she may be using a gel instead, for one reason or another. Of course, she may not be, but to simply assume she is unclean and have it spread round the office is completely unfair.

Her manager is the only person who should bring it up with her, there's usually something in company handbooks about keeping basic standards of hygiene.
