I am trying to format an old hardrive from a vista machie. I have connected it to my XP machine as a slave drive. i want to format have tried yet for some reason it is taking REALLY REALLY long to do it or says it can't be formatted. Is there any easier ways? It also gives the same error for quick format. Can I format it if I put it as the main drive (it has no OS on it though)??

Could be faulty, download drive diags from the manufacturers website, put it in as master, (remove good drive completely), and boot from bootable diagnostic disk!!

Ahh, got you, googled "drive diags" and downloaded a maxtor diagnostic tool. Will report backLive for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0
