Had a 6k limit, had a balance of £3600 at 0%, paid it off in July before the 0% run out and still have a £6k limit, so go figure.

The common point for those having their limits reduced seems to be multiple cards issued by MBNA. Out of interest, do you have other MBNA credit cards ?

No, have 4 other cards, but none are MBNA backed.

That could be why your limit was not reduced.

    Just a thought.

I very much doubt applying for multiple MBNA cards is in itself a cause for them to reduce your limits. If so, that would have put many stoozers out of business long ago. I suspect it's as simple as MBNA stated in the letters - applying for a new card triggers a review of your position with them. Depending on the particular individual's overall credit position and MBNAs lending criteria at the time it can go either way.

It was a while ago, but last time I applied for an MBNA card they offered £4500 of extra credit which I was then able to consolidate with the limit from my old card for a whopping £19K total limit available for the 0% deal.

Same here - we asked for an increase on one card and they reduced the others but ended up with 17k on one card.

Or having maintained a high balance near their credit limit for some time and subsequently cleared a large chunk.

  • I got the Amazon credit card and the £10 came straight off the order I was making, so it's not always a lie.

i got the impression that MBNA were becoming less helpful 18month to a Year ago, but since then have been back to being the stoozers best friend. im surprised to read some of the comments here. perhaps worth getting hold of credit reports and then speaking to them. ive never known them to cut a limit, in 12 or so years of 'working with' them.
