Kids Bike Tyres - Not like they used to be

Just wanting to rant....yet again son has come home with puncture, this must be the 15th puncture in the last few months. Have brought so many repair kits and inner-tubes
I am of the opinion that the tyres these days are alot thinner than they used to be. Some of the little thorns l have removed would lm sure never have had made it through the tyres years ago.
Will have to see if there is such a thing as heavy duty tyres
(BMX 11yr old)
phew.....rant over

Try putting some slime in the tyres.
Its green liquidy gel that stays in the tyres and seals any small punctures.
I have it in my bikes and although we are not heavy duty bikers we havent had a puncture since putting them in.
I have also put it into 3 wheel buggy after we had numerous punctures and it has made a big difference.
I noticed also in Lidl this week (they are doing a bike sale) and were doing some self sealing cans for £3 but I dont know if they are any good as have not tried them.
Also it may not be the tyres you have that are the problem but the inner tubes. Again going back to the buggy but I have noticed a big difference in quality and thickness of the official inner tubes and the ebay ones. Quite likely the same with the bikes.0 -
This could be a number of things, maybe kids are more reckless with their belongings? Maybe tyres are softer fore more grip to improve safety? Maybe quality is reduced?
Id avoid buying slime in a bottle, you can buy it (or dr sludge which is its competitor) already in an innertube which usually works out cheaper and theyre better.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
If the problem is the outer tyre then just buy some more of better quality. I certainly don't think you need anything heavy duty. I have bog standard tyres on my bike and only after three years of regular use have i had any problems.0

Most bikes are sold with a cheap brand tyre, you can buy heavy duty off road tyres from most bike shops, which is what I used to do, around £30 will get you a good hard wearing BMX style tyre. I always made it a duty to buy tyres separately, to ensure a longer lasting inner tube.
Of course no bicycle tyre is completely glass or nail proof.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
