Highest Credit Limits & Ways to Increase!!!

Options
Hi all....

Been stoozing for a good few years now, and there is nothing like time to build up your credit limits - 6 monthly requests for increases, etc. However, there is nothing like a **** up by the credit card company to up limits. I have twice had a limit effectively doubled due to mess ups by credit card companies.

One card is up to a 32k limit now :) Then there is the Egg card which just lets you up the limit from 3/4k to 15k in a few weeks by making multiple requests.

Other good ways are merging limits - such as merging LTSB Platinum / Create cards, etc.

My question is: what have you found to be the best strategies for upping credit limits? What cards have you merged limits on? Have you found any loop-holes like the Egg limit increase? Anyone know any credit advicers working for companies who know of tricks to up limits?

The way I look at it - the higher the limits on a small number of cards - the better for stoozing as you have the ability to apply for more. I am currently up to 11 cards and nearly 90k of debt stoozed - so applying for more cards almost always results in a refusal! The magic target is 100k - but dont think I will get there very quickly. :(

My plan is to close cards (except high limit card - i.e. < 4k) that will not renew their offers, and hopefully merge the limits on other cards if possible, otherwidr just cut my losses, and hope it allows me to successfully apply for other cards.

Anyone had any luck with merging limits on any of these cards with other cards (have fairly small limits on these - i.e. <4k each):

Marbles
Goldfish (Merge with LTSB?)
Mint (Merge with RBS?)
Barclaycard
NSPCC (Merge with Halifax?)

if your not using the credit then theirs no point in having a large standing credit limit as it will count against you on credit checks on new applications

I would say that HSBC and First Direct have been the best for me :)

Well from what I understand... they just do their own internal credit check etc... and all they did was look at my main current account. From this they could most definately verify my monthly income (Salary) and outgoing costs....

So based on this First Direct up'd my limit from 2.5k to 10k and then a month later to 15k :) HSBC is still at 10k.

That's why I try to recommend to peeps on here that you should always try to get a card from your bank - i.e. the bank that you do your 'everyday' banking with..... especially HSBC!

I agree - getting a card with your main bank does usually give you the best limit - my main bank is LTSB - and this is the card I have a 32k limit with.

I dont tend to leave large limits sitting there - but am often loathed to reduce them. All of the cards I have large limits with (10k +) I have managed to renew so far - although some getting quite difficult.

I tried First Direct and HSBC - but got turned down - might try them again in a few months. The other card that looks good is the Co-Operative bank Platinum card. They state they will consider matching your best credit limit!!! Can't see them matching a 32k limit though!!! :) I wish!!
