Meal planning

at home is mum, dad me(18) and brother (16) so basically 4 adults, im vegan so i buy my shopping seperate, my mum and dad buy for themselves and well my brother is a bit of a problem, since he was little he has been a little restrictive in his diet, ie not eating meat apart from pepperoni and salami, not eating fruit or veg apart from apples and then mostly living of potatoes, pasta, crackers, cheese and crisps...not healthy at all, but he is not overweight...yet (!) thus he is obly bought what he will eat, therefore saving on any costs of potentially wasted food, i gues our budget is maybe £20 a week max, but we usually have a monthly big shop which comes in at around £500

I plan 7 days forward from shopping day (it varies depending on DH's shifts).
I use this site a lot for inspiration as money is a bit tight at the moment, I cook the full sized portion for 2 adults and a 3 year old then the rest either goes in the freezer for later in the month or is used for lunch the next day if it's not suitable for freezing.Proud to be dealing with my debts

just change your plan so you don't get bored... if you eat the same meals on the same niht you will get bored...
maybe have a chicken night, a mince night, something with jacket potato,... and vary what you have on those nights...
chicken night - fajhitas, curry, chicken pie, kiev, chicken wrapped in bacon - and so on...
or do a 2 or 3 week plan instead of a 1 week plan, this will help to stop you being bored0 -
we have a 4 week meal plan with 28 different meals - we try to stick to going one week after another but the kids do have a fav week and want to have that week every week !
we change the plan for summer and winter and in winter we will have more stews etc, we will have a day of cooking where we will make all the stews etc and then portion them and freeze them - we started this yesterday and made a chicken curry and a chicken casserole - tonight I will do chili, bolognaise and shepherds pie and we will get about 10 family portions from each - our menu plan usually gives us one of these frozen meals each week, sometimes two depending on the week, the rest of the food is all made each day and when we do the shop we know what we have to buy for that week - I started doing this a few years back when I realised how much we were spending on food and how much was actually being wasted, by doing this meal plan thing we have saved hundereds of pounds each month - sometimes we fall off the meal plan but soon get back on as it really is simple, especially when you have kids0 -
I wish I was organised enough to meal plan, but it never rly seems worth it as it's just me in my house!
I tend to make things such as risotto on the evenings I am home, and either take for lunch the next day or use for following dinnner..
and I tend to shop for the sorts of things which I will use in various meals, spinach, tomatoes, cheese etc as staples.. (vegetarian)
Tend to spend a weekly £12 or so on food, and eat very well on it
