Ooh savvy_sue, seemed to have touched a nerve there! Different people have different needs in terms of their library and Warwick has a number of issues. It is quite likely your son is not aware of them but that doesn't decrease their impact on others. You'll see I credit the staff with being very helpful. it's the 'system' that fails rather regularly and only the IT dept can deal with that. The library have their own IT support staff who give more than their best to resolve things but are 'prevented' from resolving a lot of 'down time' by the fact they are not trusted with things like keys to doors leading to hardware etc. So not sure why my comment generated such a reaction but it remains an accurate observtion.:o0

i wasn't at warwick, but i didn't go to the university library once throughout my degree (and did pretty well at the end of it!) - my department had lots of useful books and mostly i read things online. so you don't always need to go, depending on the course.Savvy_Sue wrote:DS1 is at Warwick, not long taken him back for his second year, and do you know what? He's never mentioned ANY library problems! (And yes, he must be doing some work because he passed his first year with good results!)
i bet if you mention that you'd heard the uni library was shut all year and you wonder how he managed he would go white!!! but as he's obviously doing fine without it, it probably doesn't matter. i'm just the kind of person who enjoys making people squirm a bit!! :rotfl::happyhear0 -
Well I got voted class rep today - lol. And library opened at 2pm!! Not sayoing that the 2 things are connected in any way - RAFLMAO!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Seriously though - I got my book!!:T :T :T and very interesting it is too, if extremely distressing - tales of schoolkids eating their lunch whilst sitting on the creamatoria at Auschwitz(shudder) and the giftshops and cafes that have sprung up outside the gates!! But I'm not here to judge - merely criticise the literature and offer alternative opinions.
Massive queue alround the library to check out books - 80% of them were the foreign students who are paying humoungous fees to study here. So nice to see the Brits in attendence eager to learn as well (NOT).
The library is seriously my lifeline though. I always use the journals that aren't online and sometimes it so much more interesting to find a thread in a 'paper' journal and follow it all round the library shelves - lol - sound a bit sad now, don't I? And the smell!!!! I love the smell of old books.
I went to Birmingham Uni library the other day and it was such an eye opener to be in a 'real' big library!!Noli nothis permittere te terere

Probably not. "Books? How quaint ..." (He's studying computing ...)melancholly wrote:i bet if you mention that you'd heard the uni library was shut all year and you wonder how he managed he would go white!!!
Oh, so do I! And it is tempting ... when he's got his internet connection set up at home I may point him here and see what he says!melancholly wrote:i'm just the kind of person who enjoys making people squirm a bit!! :rotfl:
Actually, I can't quite work out how he's coped all this week WITHOUT an internet connection at home! I suppose the computer labs are open 24/7 ... now that really would put him out if he couldn't get online easily! :rotfl:
He's just come online! In the labs ... dirty old stopout!
And his response:
"It's not like it closes." (The computer labs ...)
"I was juggling in the library building earlier. Didn't actually go into the place where they put the books." (Juggling is his other speciality. I reckon he could make a living busking if he had to!)Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I don't recall the library at Warwick being closed last year. When was this exactly?3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000
