Winter Sun Holiday Ideas from people who done it!

  • It will be warm enough to swim in the Red Sea but unlikely warm enough in the Atlantic. You should be able to sunbathe at both locations although you are more likely to get settled weather and no rain in Egypt. It can get cooler in the evenings and you should avoid unheated pools at hotels ( well you will soon find that one out!!!!)

I have searched around and I saw a few holidays fitting in that budget-mainly Egypt.. for 7 days, usually not being there on New Years Eve as that becomes far too expensive.

I have been researching exactly the same thing as you... where is REALLY warm enough and I came up with the following

    Egypt (Sharm, Hurghada)
Caribean (been to Dominican in winter, albeit January, so know for sure)
    Gran Canary
    Mexico
Goa or Kerala (I've been there so know for sure)
    Gambia (been there too)

I am waiting for last minute deal myself.. But you can't do Goa last minute unless you live in London or Birmingham as you need Visa for travel to Goa.

edinburgh does the Visa's too to India..

Yes, but only if you live in Scotland.

Even if you live in Northumberland or Tyne & Wear you can't apply in person to Edinburgh or Glasgow centres.
  • We went to Sharm last December (first two weeks i think) and it was perfect temperature. Personally I think October time is the best time for Egypt but December was lovely. It was hot enough to sunbathe all day etc. Only problem was the water (although I feel the cold I seem to have this problem everywhere!) However I did go snorkelling a number of times and as long as you keep moving and dry when you get out it is fine. Evenings were warm enough with a small cardie. I would definitely go to Egypt agian in December. We have also been to Cuba and Thailand late November - December last minute hols with cheap deals for winter sun (however not over xmas and new year or in school holidays!!!) Only problem with these places is that that time of year is the monsoon seasons. But we are happy to take the risk as is so much cheaper to go! Cuba had amazing thunderstorms could see in the distance but no rain. Thailand did rain occasionally but only for an hour at a time and then was fine again!
Hope you have a great hol
