Help with Tax Credits Verification Failure

Hi, Hope someone in the know may be able to offer me some advice. Was a single Mum with two small children (one with a disability). Have since met someone and recently moved in with him and we are getting married next year. So all great except one thing... Tax Credits!!

I told them the day myself and the children moved in with my partner. So they stopped my single claim right away and have had nothing since in the last 4 weeks. Rang them today and spoke to someone who said the date on the form is different to the one I gave them when I rang up? I can't remember for sure but thought that the date on the form, was the date I filled it in. o moved in on the 29th Aug date on form (by the time I got it) may have been 7th Sept.

This has raised a 'Verification Failure' a it looks on their system like I am trying to claim twice, once for a single person and another as a couple?! This is because of an overlap in dates. Anyone know what happens now and how long this is likely to take to rectify?

Thanks

  • Im in exactly the same situation, coming up for 8 weeks no-one can tell me when its going to get sorted.
  • It could be that it shows you are in 2 claims with the new joint claim start date being the same or earlier than the single claim end date, and easy to resolve by changing the start date of the new claim to the day after the old claim ended, if that is indeed what it is.
