hi,
im converting an outbuilding in my garden for business use. i have gone through my local council and found out i dont need planning permission but have to follow building regs. i have had my building notice accepted, but still i am a bit confused!
does the insulation and plastering which is all im having done have to be done to a certain thickness to comply? if so what is it? my council have not told me this at all and i thought they would!
any help or advice would be great thanks!

Yes you will need a certain u-value of insulation.
If you call Building Control for advice, they will give it to you! They should tell you the u-values required in walls, roof and windows.
Then you can speak to a company like Kingspan who have a technical department especially to help people like you and advise you on which products will meet your building inspector's expectations and any of your own requirements (mininum thickness etc)Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

you can also get the information direct from the building regualtions,
depending on the construction of the existing outbuilding you may have to do a sap calculation for the building as a whole, as it may be more beneficial for you to put more insulation in the roof than taking up floor area with insulation...
Edit: celotex website has a decent calculator for u-vaules tooThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
