Attractions around Haven Weymouth Bay - where to go??

Options
Hi

We are going to Weymouth Bay Haven park for the October Half term with a 12 year old and 4 year old.

Can anyone recommend any good places to visit near by or do on the park?

I have been debating the Sealife but the reviews have not been very good.

So any suggestions from anyone who have been there before?

Much Appreciated.

Monkey World, Bovington Tank Museum and Abbotsbury Swannery are all worth visiting and not too far.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Weymouth harbour. Buy one of the cheap little crab nets, some chopped bacon in Tescos, or bait at the harbour. That will keep the kids busy all day, catching crabs, or, if you get one of the little round type nets, small fish also. Ours didn't even notice when it started pouring.
  • Went to Weymouth sealife two weeks ago and thought it had a run down feel about it. The outdoor paddling pool was very unclean and wasn't being used by anyone, even though it was a reasonably sunny day. My opinion not worth the money even with 2 for 1 offer. Monkeyworld is worth a visit, Dorset has some amazing scenery and walks. I would avoid visiting Portland for the next few weeks, as there are lots of roadworks going on! There is crazy golf up past the sealife centre. Next to the sealife centre there is go-carting and for the youngest there is a soft play, next to the harbour.
  • There's a little theme park at the bottom of the hill from the park. It's quite cheap for the rides and has a nice cafe there on the beach
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.

Thanks for the replies. We have done Monkey World etc as we normally stay in Bournemouth just fancied a change of sceanery.
I am still unsure about Sealife Centre as I could just go and spend a day at Adventureland instead.
Will check out the other suggestions though
  • One thing you need to know about Weymouth at the moment is the traffic system has been thrown in to total disarray by the council digging up roads all over town for the 2012 Olympic, the sailing is being held in Portland. It's caused us some head aches as half the time the road is shut and there are no diversions. Not to mention the traffic jams.
Nothing to see here, move along.
  • Was like that in July when we went..But if you can Portland Bill is definitely worth a look, the stunning coastline, kids can climb over the rocks and the sea can be lovely to watch smashing over the rocks on a windy day there is a place to get food and drinks there as well, also the lighthouse. You could spend a couple of hours there, even our very bored 16 yr son liked walking around and taking photo's lol
