Buying an Ipad or e-reader in the States

I am going to America shortly and wondered about buying an Ipad, Iphone or e-reader (Sony or Kindle) - various Christmas presents!

Is it the same technology or are there specific differences for the UK market so they can't be used over here? They seem to be quite a bit cheaper.

Comments

  • I would have thought they were the same. The only difference would be the charger being for American plugs. Also the iphone may be locked to a certain network with a certain length contract so I'd check that.
  • You can use a US iPad on UK iTunes (and visa versa). You obviously will need a new wall plug (but those are relatively cheap). I cannot remark on third party eReaders.

Also note your UK import allowance. Would suck if you had to pay higher duty than VAT on that.
