  • Sounds like limescale. Lidl do a great limescale remover try that!

I think it might be dust that accumulates within the bowl and when mixed with water during a flush, looks like grey stains.

It could also be from recent pipe work or DIY?
  • Not sure if it's dust as some of the loos are used regular

I have had a new boiler and some works done a few months back, seems to coincide with that, could it be that??

I can clean it off fine but then it comes back after a few weeks

try a can of coca cola...no..seriously .....try it.
pour it in and around the bowl and leave it a day or so.
I dont think pepsi works..as its an inferior product !! lol
I tried it once and it worked for me.

Take the lid off the cistern; is there similar grey inside? If so, I'd suggest something coming through the pipes

Is the lid on your cold water tank sitting properly?

Sounds silly but I realised that my chrome toilet brush top was scratching the bowl. Could it be that? I stick to the cheapie white plastic ones which I can throw away regularly now.:)
