Ok - Sold an item - £188

Buyer saying item not recieved - I posted it from work (i know!) and it turns out it was stashed in back office and hasnt been sent.

Buyer has escalted claim to ebay but not Paypal - Do i send the item as they havent claimed through paypal?

Cant get in touch with buyer

If you send it now you are outside the time frame for seller protection assuming they paid more than 7 days ago, so you may have to grovel and apologise and hopefully cancel the transaction. You may well end up with a neg and a non performing seller complaint, but if you send it with no protection it could be worse, it's a gamble really.

Incidentally, didn't you realise you didn't get any tracking details from work? It is not a bad idea that as soon as you get tracking you may a habit of adding the details to paypal automatically but keep the posting slips regardless for 180 days. Also remember that the cost of the item means you must have a signature available online.

they normally process everything at the end of the day and then leave tracking etc on your desk - I've not been in office this month so assumed it was on my desk.

I'll give ebay a call and see what they suggest

I really wouldn't bother with ebay, they will give you any answer, even if it leaves you out of pocket, just to get you off the phone.

If you do phone them then be careful, you must know what your protection is or is not before you talk to them. Also remember they are not paypal, so they may say it is perfectly oK to send it now, but ignore the fact that the buyer, if they wanted, could still do a paypal chargeback which you would not be covered against.

Soolin, could the seller grovel on bended knee to the buyer, give a full refund & if the buyer still wanted the item re-invoice maybe knocking a few quid off & then be covered for seller protection?

Send it recorded delivery tomorrow, and mail the buyer to say what you have done.

Is that a good idea? A high value item (£188) via Recorded Delivery... if you have to send it, then surely it has to go Special Delivery?

I would be sending something worth £188 Special Delivery. If it doesn't turn up, and seller claims from RM, then since it is worth more than £41 RM will not pay out.

Seller protection needs several condition to apply one of which is item needs to have been posted within 7 days of payment being received. Now, I admit i am looking at worse case scenario here and I'm sure buyer is fine, but all the rules for seller protection do need to be noted and the 7 day one is the one a number of people do forget about.

Would the seller get the 7 days again if she refunded & the buyer paid again? Or would they go on the original payment?

If OP could persuade buyer to accept a refund and then repay they would then be covered by seller protection on the second payment.
