Gas pipe running on the outside of the house

Hi, We live in a semi sharing the driveway with 3 other neighbours. yesterday British Gas came to install a new boiler, the old boiler pipe connections from the gas mains had a wrong size (smaller) pipe, so they had to make a new connection, because of the Loo and few cupboards were on the way they decided to run the gas pipe to ouside and in again at the boiler point.
I think I had asked the gasman if it was safe, he said yes. Tonight one of the neighbours (the one is on the other side of the driveway)came to complain about it, she does not want that pipe there, she says it is not safe.
Does anyone knows anything about how safe/unsafe these pipes are?
Thank you for your attention.
Vera

    I believe they are safe.

When we had our central heating replaced and the bolier moved to an upstairs cupboard the gas installer talked to us about having the pipe outside.

In the end there was enough space to do it inside but they are a reputable place and would not be able to install it like that if it wasn't safe with all the red tape/regulations they have to work around.

Is there something you could do to apease your neighbour like covering it?

After all they have gas pipes inside there own house so they can't be that unsafe!!

    Thank you Ben,
She is worried because if any car going through the driveway or kids, etc could easily damage it and it result in a disaster. (the pipes are at my waist level ). Vera

We had a pipe that ran outside our flat. I was a bit concerned at the time but it was still fine 7 years later. I agree that they couldn't do something like that if it wasn't safe, especially nowadays.
It's nothing to do with her anyway if it's on your house, surely?

yes is quite safe, but if there is a chance of a car inpact, you could/ can fit a metal pipe protection over it.
