if it has to be an iPod then a 2gb nano would be the best way to go this is the smallest iPod looking ipod (the shuffle is cheaper but doesn't have a screen) and reatails for about £100 - if you use quidco you can get cash back from sites etc.. if it is just an mp3 player there are loads of options..

Why?? if you want to budget then there is no need for a mains charger as you can easily charge the iPod through your PC. I would also agree that an iPod nano would fit the bill.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

just got a nano from the apple refurb shop you dont need a main charger to do a full reset.
To the op is it a nano or a 'standard ipod' thats wanted? Nano is a lot smaller in size & storage. You can pick up a cheap nano or ipod at the apple refurb store, http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObjects/ukstore click the link at the bottom right - looking for a great deal?
Only downside is they dont come in a 'proper' box, but otherwise there as new.

the older iPods needed a charger/firewire to support firmware updates, i had a 4th gen 20gb. upgraded to 5th gen and it doesn't need a charger at all. Firmware update reboots will work over usb, but sadly lost the firewire capability.

If you want a cheaper option Novatech.co.uk do an Ipod lookalike for £34(1gb). It has a colour screen, is about nano size and also plays games.
A bargain is something you don't need at a price you can't resist.

i purchased this recently and it kicks Ipod bum and has twice the storage of a similar priced IPOD nano and it supports multiple formats not just MP3 . plus you do not need ITUNES. a simply Drag and Drop is all that is required
rather worrying though is that Amazon have put the price up £15 since i purchased it 2 weeks ago. hunt around though and i,m sure you will get it for less than £95. and for that you get everything you need plus a decent set of earphones ( despite what others say)

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000F2BUPM/026-6879766-4804414

i also wrote a review on the site for it. all reviews by Hi-Fi magazines give it 5 out of 5. and it's a Samsung and you can definatly tell their Market leader status in Battery life and slimline phones have filtered down to this.

oh and it sounds OUT OF THIS WORLD by the way .
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • However for a music player the Ipod Nano does have the best user interface I have seen yet.It sounds great, had excellent battery life and looks good too!

The Ipod supports wav,mp3 and aac.

The main thing that does annoy me about the Ipod is that you can only transfer songs from one Itunes library to an Ipod at any one itme.If you have different libraries on different computers you need to wipe the ipod each time you sync with a different library!!
