Natwest student credit card - Went over limit

So I went over my credit card limit by about £5 due to a subscription I had automatically taking money from the card. (I did not know that the subscription did this). However, as soon as the money had left the card, I paid back the ammount that was over the limit immediatly. What I'm worried about it 1) Am I going to get a bank charge, and 2) Is this badly going to effect my credit report for the future. This is the first time this sort of thing has happened.

  • Even if it gets reported, a single aberration is not really anything to be worried about.

My guess is you might get away with it not being reported (as it was so transient), but might not be so lucky about the charge.

If they do charge, I would ask them to refund. Legally, penalties should not exceed the cost of the breach. Unless they've gone to the trouble of calling you up or sending a letter or in some other way have incurred a loss, then I think there are good grounds for complaint.
