Day out in South - inspiration please!

Options
hi

not sure if this is a needle in a haystack thread but want ideas for a day out for me and hubby this weekend around Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey/Oxon/Dorset way (ie: anywhere within 1-2 hours of north hampshire).

we've done a couple of trips to London recently so want somewhere different.... have done Windsor Wheel, Spinnaker Tower, Port Solent before... don't really do shopping or eating and it's going to be wet... anybody have any ideas of something a bit different or is this just waaaaay too vague?! :o

thanks
Mrs Hedgehog

  • Go back to Pompey.
    Have a wander round the Dockyard (2 minutes walk from Portsmouth Harbour train station), and do a tour of the Warrior or the Victory.
    Have a wander down Old Portsmouth (15 minutes walk), and have lunchon the camber at the entrance to the harbour.
    Then have a bracing stroll along the seafront.
    or;
    Take the Wightlink Catamaran from the terminal at the end of the platform at Portsmouth Harbour train station, across to Ryde. Either enjoy all that Ryde has to offer, or get the train from Ryde to Shanklin. After you've hada a wander round, then do the cliff-walk along to Sandown, and get the train back to Ryde from there.
    You could also walk up Culver Cliff from Sandown.
    or;
    From Ryde bus station (by the pier) get an island runabout ticket on the buses from Ryde, taking in Newport, Cowes, Yarmouth, Alum Bay, Tennyson Down, Ventnor, Shanklin, Sandown and Brading (and anywhere else I've missed!). It's a great way to see the island.

    Shove the boat out and stay overnight;)
  • What about Bristol? You could go to the Aquarium/Imax, up through College Green to the Bristol Museum (free and wonderful) with some Banksy spotting along the way.
