I need a current account with cheque book for pensioner on low income

My elderly relative, who had CCJ's and owed thousands, has gone into a care home. The house has been sold and she now has about £25,000 capital after all the debts have been cleared. Her only income is her Retirement Pension and Attendance Allowance. Does anyone know where can I find a current account for her that doesn't require a monthly salary to be paid in, with a cheque book to pay the care home fees?

  • i would try the NATIONWIDE building society`s FLEX ACCOUNT.i HAVE JUST OPENED ONE AND HAVE A LOW INCOME TOO
  • I deal with an elderly relatives finances, I can recommend the
Co-op and Northern Rock, plus if you explain what it's for they should be helpful.
Do not use HSBC as I am finding their service terrible, can't access money for relative as they have managed to lose the POA and are proving particularly obstructive.

Norwich & Peterborough are one of the few places that will give a cheque book out to people with credit problems - I noticed that you say that she had CCJs against her name. Here is a link

Of course, there is nothing stopping an application for a standard account, like a Halifax Reward which will pay £5 for each month that £1000 is deposited and none when not. But then a credit check will come into play and CCJs may mean refusal.
