I is a real shame it’s going. I know there are plenty of alternatives but none of them are good as Xmarks for multi platform use.
I will miss you Xmarks:(0 -

Another
Xmarks user here...
I'm trying out 'SyncPlaces' firefox plugin as a replacement, and it seems good to me (If you have your own web space or an ftp account for storing your links on)
Obviously, only useful if you use Firefox though
(though it does offer XBEL and HTML format to allow access from other browsers, I've not tried it) 0 -
Firefox 4 will have Firefox Sync built-in, no need for addons or plugins. Probably sounded the death knell for Xmarks, who never really had a business model as to how they would monetize their service.poppy100

Yes, it's a real shame, I use it as a bookmark backup, as well as a sync, across several OS on 3 different PCs.
What do people think of the $10/year subscription suggestion?

Even I would consider that, and I'm the tightest person I know.
And as for Firefox Sync, which incidently doesn't automatically sync, and then it only gets 3 stars and understandably a lot of abuse HERE .Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Anyone who uses Xmarks will know it was due to cease operating in Jan. They have just emailed to say they have been bought out.
Am v.pleased about this :-)
===============================
Thank you for your continued support of Xmarks through this transitional time. After a near-brush with shutting down, we're now happy to report that Xmarks has been acquired by LastPass, the leading password and data manager.
The acquisition means two things for Xmarks users:
1. Xmarks is NOT shutting down! It will continue to be the same free service that you know and love.
2. Xmarks now offers a Premium service for $12 per year that includes the iPhone and Android apps, advanced features, and priority support.
We hope that as an active Xmarks user, you will consider upgrading to Xmarks Premium to gain access to these features. Your support will not only ensure our long-term viability, but will also help accelerate the introduction of new features and service improvements.
We're excited to continue providing the best data-syncing tools out there!
Thanks,
The LastPass and Xmarks Teams0 -
Excellent! So our current xmarks will function the same way in the free service?0

I believe so - if you just use it to synch your bookmarks you'll be fine. Think the Premium allows you to synch open tabs & restore specific bookmark backups and more.0 -
Just received my email. :T:beer:

Anyone with experience of LastPass as a company/product?
