Is there anyone out there who likes their storage heaters?

Another fan here. I am at home during the day so would need the heat whatever I used. Rarely have the input above halfway and even in last year's terrible winter rarely used the boost despite living in N East Scotland! £80 per month and was in credit by over £130 at the end of winter despite living in a 1920 flat without cavity wall insulation. My heaters are not the newest and are approximately 20 years old. It's a two bedroom house althouth the bedroom heaters are only used in the very cold weather. Hope that is helpfulLost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

The heaters I had in my flat were Creda TSR.(This was 10 years ago mind) Seemed to work well.
Duo heat require dual mains feeds, one from the switched E7 circuit and one from the day rate circuit, so may cost more to install. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I love mine.
As has been said above, most people who hate them don't know how to use them. It also could be that the ones who had them and the heat was running out could have some of the elements not working.
They cannot be expected to work the same as GCH. They have the benefit of keeping the fabric of the building at at constant temperature, not hot - cold - hot - cold as GCH is on and off all the time.
Mine are 20yrs old and retain heat till at least 11pm, cost me £100 15 years ago and when we have a power cut are still warm for hours.
It beats me why anyone would use electricity to pump hot water all over the house at only 90% efficiency(at best) when my storage heaters are 100% efficient and need no maintenance.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
The reason is that electricity is three times more expensive than gas. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Points taken, I had storage heaters for 18 years so id say in that time I did know how to use them, however; I hated them , by late afternoon when you needed more heat they were useless.., I have GCH now,:) its flexible and so much warmer than storage any time, you have heat when you want it with gas, I like to have my windows open during the day which is fine with gas heating , but with electric heating the heat would be lost by late afternoon with open windows,..
When we were looking to buy , we told the EA that we would not buy any home which had storage heaters in ,so dont bother sending us details, thats how much we hate storage heaters....:mad:0 -

Yes, I wish I had that option (to have GCH) but unfortunately my block of flats is all electric, which is infuriating because 100m away are houses with gas! I did realise there might be a problem with the installed panel heating but liked the flat in every other way and didn't have a lot of choice because of my money situation at the time and moving from one part of the country to another (so not so easy to look around).0 -

Not when you're paying the night rate on E7. It's not even double the cost of gas then (and gas appliances aren't 100% efficient) - and you don't have servicing / maintenance costs to worry about with storage heaters. See, they're not all bad.0 -

They must have been faulty then, mine stay warm all day.
Anyway, I am glad you like your GCH, thats all that matters, just some of us like storage heating or have no gas or live in flats with no gas.Know the difference between what you WANT and what you NEED. :T0 -
I realise the OP has made up his/her mind and doesn't want to hear negative comments, but I'm not going to let the 'they don't know how to use them' camp get away with it - not least because these are public, archived, threads and people other than the OP will one day come to read them.
I have been fully conversant with the operation of the various types I've encountered (all of which were made by Dimplex, if that makes any difference) and all, without fail, were unable to provide sufficient warmth in the evening.
More to the point, what is that users are supposed not to be able to understand? A storage radiator is hardly a sophisticated product, offering the minimum of operational features.
Perhaps if you rise at dawn and retire at eight pm the lack of evening warmth might not matter. Perhaps the individual building makes a greater degree of difference than I suspect it does, but there is a reason why storage radiators get such a bad press - and it's not due to a lack of knowledge on the part of people who live with them. Caveat emptor.

My OH can be up at 7am and we often go to bed after midnight and have no prolem with heat at all times of the day right through till bedtime. Personally I would not like the idea of only having the heat on for a few hours a day but prefer heat on all the time. They have served me well and I would never have GCH.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
