  • I've only just noticed your diary. Well done on making such a good start to overpaying. I will try to keep up from now.

Well done on your progress so far and good luck with the move :), Is OH allowed to buy with you ;)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

    Hi Sleepyhead,

I'm looking to move house this year too, will mean a bigger mortgage -sob- but hopefully a long term move. I will follow how you get on with your move, good luck with it all :)

Thanks Linz, the thought of a bigger mortgage scares me even though I know I can afford it. Fingers crossed some lovely houses appear for us to buy!

Unfortunately OH has a rubbish credit rating so it's a no go :(. Would be lovely if he could though as what we could borrow together would enable us to buy a proper lovely home! Very frustrating but the result of his life before me so I've known all along and he's working hard to sort it out.

We talk about him paying half of everything if we move, rather than just rent- people tell me he gets a very good deal! I would clearly have something drawn up with a solicitor to protect us both. I have too much equity to not be careful- I'm not planning on breaking up but then no one ever does!

  • Yippee for Friday, the 1st week back to work is always the hardest isn't it?

On reflection the list I posted was a bit short, I seem to have acheived other things this week so have added them on!

    1) Juggle standing orders- Done
    2) Find out how much I can overpay on my mortgage and overpay- called them, just waiting for the letter
    3) Keep an eye on rightmove to see when new properties start to appear (assuming this will be March ish but will start watching now)- Doing!
    4) Continue to take regular meter readings for gas and electric
    5) Shop around for Service and MOT
    6) Shop around for Car Insurance
    7) Call John Lewis about Goodwill gesture for missing Chrsitmas present- Done- £40 credited to CC with no fight!
    8) Do online shop of the 'boring stuff'- Done and delivered
    9) Meal plan for next week- Done
    10) Check date MOT is due
    11) Write to council about plans for new double yellow lines-
    DONE

Plan for next week is to 'complete' the list before adding anything else to it. Easier said than done!

  • Well I hope the weather has been lovely for you all today, it's felt like spring here which is a great contrast to the cold December.

The letter from the Halifax arrived yesterday, much to my surprise I can overpay £1125 during January. This is much more than I expected cue lots of moving money around and amending standing orders- again!

Good news is I'm rapidly heading towards owing just £60,000 which is the next big milestone. Hopefully this will be acheived by March. This will of course help massively with the move/ remortgage as my LTV is looking very good. Although I will be able to borrow more too, I'm reluctant to go over the stamp duty threshold but it does start to open up possible house projects rather than move into something which is done.

    All very exciting :j

Must go and ice the carrot cake I've just made and finish off making lunches before OH returns from watching rugby (at least they won so he won't be an old grump!)

    Have a good week

  • So I've decided I'm rubbish at this diary malarky, must try harder!

The 'list' is almost complete. Car insurance renewal came through at over £600 (both cars on a multi car policy with 3 named drivers on each)- this is £100 more than last year. I've looked round and can't seem to get the same cover for less but will give them a call and try to get them down a bit anyway.

Shopping around for Car Service and MOT hasn't really happened. I need my car for work so have gone back to the dealer. It was also convenient as to when they could book it in and at the mo I'm prepared to pay for this.

My lovely dad gave me some money so I've paid £1125 off the mortgage and topped up my ISA. I'm hoping when the folks at Halifax write to me they will say I can pay off even more during Feb. Feels like cheating but is nice to have a helping hand towards my targets :j

Right, off to 'study' Rightmove and watch My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding...
  • I'm enjoying a well needed productive but relaxing weekend.

I've finished all my filing which was lurking in the living room, done some baking, been for a lovely walk and done some gardening. The sunshine really helps although it's bloomin' cold.

Had a fab week moneywise too, the peeps at Halifax told me I could overpay again during January, in total I made (unexpected) overpayments totalling £1570.55. Very pleased about this :D

My ISA is also full for this tax year, no balance on my credit card and no council tax to pay for the next 2 months. Lets hope I'm allowed to overpay again during Feb or I might be reducing my term again. As much as the 10% overpayment limit is annoying, I do love the fact it's free for me to reduce the term yet I can put it back to what it was should I need too.

Time to put the dinner on me thinks

  • So I don't normally come on here and rant but....seriously how selfish and single minded can men be? Ok slight generalisation (sorry boys) but OH is excelling in this field today.

I've had a busy day involving a little bit of food shopping this morning followed by some cleaning, baking, lunch and visiting family. We've come home and whilst OH has sat on his behind watching the TV, I have made dinner and done some more baking and cleaning. Not even as much as a 'do you need any help' or 'are you ok?' So, I don't mind cooking and like baking but to not bat an eyelid, when I have effectively stood for the entire day looking after everyone, has seriously pee'd me off.

To top it all, my dad has been staying with us for a couple of weeks whilst he recovers from an op and yet he manages to ask if I need help and then offers to do the washing up. I thought the boys were going to share the duty but when I went to check all was ok OH was nowhere to be seen. So there's my poor old dad washing up whilst OH sorts HIS side of the bedroom, drawers and wardrobe. So I dry up and chat to dad.

Tomorrow OH is out for the day so no doubt I will clean to get everything ready for next week as that apears to be my role at the moment. Maybe I'll put his rent up so he pays for the live in cleaner..that'll teach him :rotfl:

All seems quite petty now I've written it down but I end up exhausted and go back to work for a break, and that's saying something as work isn't easy. Maybe it's just me, off to bed to see if sleep helps!

    Night all!

Hmmm - I've got one of them today too... While I was out earlier sorting things out to sell on eBay over at my parents' house, and while DS slept for 2.5 hours DH also decided that napping would be a better use of his time than doing any housework! He could have at least put the washing machine on before he went to sleep!

Sleep sounds like a good idea. I hope your OH bucks his ideas up soon.

BTW - I've only just read your diary and am very impressed with your OPing work :D
