Hello all.

My DH is considering buying a 2l diesel Mondeo TDCi but it has a slight oil leak from the back of the engine.

Is it going to be anything serious?

To my mind anything with a leak should be avoided but am I wrong?

Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

Could be a simple, cheap fix, or it could be serious. I'd suggest steering clear, afterall, Mondeos are easy to come by and nothing special.
  • As above - it could be minor it could be major.

The turbo on these is at the back of the engine and itf its a turbo oil seal thats gone your looking at big money to repair.
  • Crank seal behind the flywheel is a bigger bill, Be silly not to replace the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder/bearing
    at the same time.

£600 - £700 to do a clutch change, Unless you goto ford, My sister paid £1200 for a full clutch & a starter motor.

Also know for the sump to leak, Not common but a couple of cases reported. Washer on the sump plug not been replaced
    often enough?

Mine is on the top end of 143k and has no oil leaks. As others have said, there's plenty out there so go to the next one.
