    Wow thanks everybody! It sounds complicated. Probably easier to just get another job as soon as possible, if that's possible. I'm just scared that if the worst comes to the worst, we'll be competing for jobs with loads of other people all younger and healthier than we are.

    Of course the idea is to find work, but ignore the liks of Karenx who posts with no knowledge of the subject matter.

    You can both claim contribution based, just state you know you want to.

    We are both workers, always have been and hopefully always will be. Just getting a bit hyped up with all the talk of redundancies and thinking that if we are both laid off at our ages (post 55) the chances of getting work would be slim. We really don't know about the reality of looking for jobs thankfully, but who knows what is ahead? It's scarey to think too far in front at the moment.
