Chargeback for Hotel Booking?

Less than 24 hours ago I booked a hotel in Italy that I wasn't sure I would be able to make.

The website states: ""You can cancel your reservation with no charge within our cancellation policies."

Today I found out I won't need it, and I went through the automated cancellation procedure through the website. It seemed to go through but I received an email saying the booking was PREPAID and I can't have a refund.

This is a fair amount of cash and I don't know what to do. The booking is for 6th October for 7 days. I am waiting to hear back from them again but looking at other options in case it isn't positive.

Can I do a Credit Card chargeback for something like this? If so how long until I can get the money back? I am going to be in a different part of Italy and need the money for another hotel.

Hoping you can help, thanks in advance :o

  • What is the site?

Letting you cancel is one thing - getting your money back is another.

Let us have a look at the terms and conditions on the site.
  • The website is http://www.hotel-sanfrancisco.it/

What I read when booking is this bit on the booking page:

    Check availability and book now
You are able to find out availability, rates and even book securely and immediately without any down payment. You can cancel your reservation with no charge within our cancellation policies.

Just tried the site and I get the following on the booking page when picking the same dates as you.
Cancellation policies Special offer : NON REFUNDABLE / PRE PAID

This booking can't be refunded, modified nor cancelled.
The total amount of the stay will be charged on the credit card immediately upon booking.
The price and the availability of the room are guaranteed only in case of successful charge on the credit card.
If you wish to extend your stay it is necessary to make a new booking
There will be no refunds for delays or early departures.

If that is the case you stand no chance of getting a chargeback - your only hope is the website refunding you.

Most hotels offer a no-refund policy on their "best" rates, and non-flexible bookings. That the risk you take when you go for the best deals (actually it's not just hotels, airlines are another example).

I agree with no chance of a card refund, it's up to the company. They may offer to move your booking for a fee or percentage.
  • I didn't see that, I was in a rush. I actually read that statement for some other dates I was checking and it was different (said I can refund) but this must be a special offer rate.

I just took that initial statement on the booking page (quoted above) and rushed it through. Feels a little sneaky but it is a lesson learned I guess :(

Hopefully I can negotiate something with them. Thanks for the help guys!
