Previous occupants left debts?

We moved into our new quarter 4 weeks ago and have noticed that there is a lot of correspondance for the previous occupants, from debt collection agencies.
My main concern is, are debts attached to an address and therefore will they effect our credit rating, especially as we are planning a couple of big purchases this next year?
Never had this problem before, so unsure what to do next.

The debts are attached to the people, not you, so you 'should' be fine - do get yoursleves on the electoral role, though, if you're planning to apply for credit, and use one of the free trials to check your credit reports for any errors (or real problems) that may have snuck on there.
Be happy in your new quarterMortgage Free thanks to ill-health retirement0 -
I am an ex mortgage advisor. I can confirm that the debt will be attached to a name not a house. You will need to get yourself on the electoral role, and I would also forward those letters to Glasgow so that they find their rightful owner.0

Thanks for that, sent the electoral roll forms last week, so that's all done.
We think that they've probably left the army, which is why they think it's ok to leave a mess behind!0 -
I've had debt letters in our last 2 quarters, I even had a debt collector turn up on our doorstep once!0

Glad you got the electoral roll forms sorted - def send the letters to Glasgow.0

You could always put 'Not known at this address' and drop it into the postbox.
The company sending the mail will receive it back, and hopefully get the idea.
