SOUTHAMPTON shopping for maternity, baby and toddler - advice please

Hi, hope its OK me posting this here. I am hoping to find some advice on the best shops - I am going for 1 day shopping in Southampton for maternity clothes, new baby stuff (mainly clothes) and clothes for my 2 year old girl. I come from Guernsey and am not all that used to the different English shops, and wouldn't want to miss out a good shop!

I've been trawling the net and my list so far is:
Primark at the end of Above Bar Street
Matalan at The Mall (from Above Bar Street)
George at Asda, out the other end of The Mall
and (if there is time) New Look (for maternity) at West Quay shopping centre.

I think I can walk to West Quay from The Mall/Asda - can anyone confirm this? (bearing in mind I'm pregnant so no long hikes please!)

Is there anywhere else I should go, especially for maternity? Is it worth me going to Dorothy Perkins or Next or anywhere else? We have both in Guernsey but they don't have maternity sections. As you can see I'm after cheap stuff.

Thanks!

  • Yes you can walk from Asda into the Marlands Mall (Disney Store, Hawkins Bazaar, Matalan) then when you come out the front turn right and you can walk down the high street to West Quay or a bit further down the hill to Primark (be very brave - not it's best branch!). TBH Sainsbury's is 25% off from today and they have very reasonable, good quality clothes. John Lewis has a nice baby dept. in West Quay as well and IKEA is there now as well. Good luck - enjoy!

    Mothercare WORLD? Crikey.

Didn't even know Sainsburys did clothes - on their website is a pack of 3 sleepsuits for £3!!!! Won't get that in Guernsey!!!!

    Thanks, keep 'em coming!
  • The new Next Home on West Quay retail park has maternity clothes (out of West Quay through John Lewis and it's over the road). To be honest though I think New Look has the best range of maternity clothes at a good price.

Tesco Home (next to Mothercare on the retail park) also has a good range of baby and children's clothes at a very good price.

There's also Gap for maternity and baby- it's in West Quay. The baby section is on the same level as New Look. Pumpkin Patch is on the same level and they have some very cute baby and toddler stuff.

It's all walking distance, even when pregnant:p.

Burseldon boot sale on a Sunday - pick up everything you need for a fraction of the shop price - Then head over to West Quay at 10am for anything you still need.

I never bought any specific maternity clothes - I just bought some cheap trousers/shirts from ASDA that were a few sizes bigger. Cost me about £4 each.
