What I do not understand is why it is considered a disaster for an owner to be evicted, but just the norm for a tenant. Wish someone could explain.

Oh girl you are in for one major MAJOR wake-up call when you finally realise society (from financial institutions to potential employers and partners) has been judging and making concise decisions on your whole economic and social make-up based on your lowly renter class. Sorry but that's the way it is in the United Kingdom. Always has been and always will be. Why do you think homeownership is such an aspiration to millions?

It seems entirely reasonable to make economic decisions based on homeownership, but no-one but a total loon would make social distinctions based on that.

Yes, wish someone could explain that to me, too.

this is the thing though Silvercar - many people on here would do anything for lower house prices. as you can see they would even kick families onto the street out of their own homes...

all of this just for them to be able to buy a property. it's all very, very sad.

Or why some of those that take on a debt of a mortgage, see themselves as being a higher status to those that don't.

I've had mortgages, been a tenant and a landlord, but until I read these boards, I didn't even realise that I was meant to look down on tenants. Strange as it may seem, I was always very grateful for the rent from my tenant as it covered my mortgage. They also saved me paying utility bills to keep an empty house warm in winter.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

They won't be on the street, they can rent and make that their new home.

It would be good if the spin-off from all this was that the government brought our renting standards up to the standard of our European cousins.

if they have no money because they couldn't afford mortgage payments, where are they going to get money for rent?
