Report to Credit reference agency - Not happy

I have a card with a large high street store and when I get my bill I pay the full amount off everytime. It is rarely owing and has never been above £100.

I have recently moved house and some mail has not been received and therefore I did not receive my latest bill (£68.14 minimum payment £4) for the last month. Obviously with moving etc as it didnt land on my doorstep I failed to make the payment. (which has never happened)

I have today received my bill for September which has the purchases for August on, interest and a charge of £12 for non payment last month. Included in the envelope was another sheet informing me that I have been reported for non payment to the relevant credit agencies:mad:

To say I am livid is an understatement.

To top it off I call them and the customer advisor says that the bill for August was posted out 3 days ago and I may have not received it yet and that is the bill I needed to pay BUT my 'due' date for payment is 10 days before I get the bill and that I should not rely on the bill for payment.

I have checked my account online and they have my old address even though I had informed them of the change of address at the beginning of August. He stated that they had my new address but it is 'possible' that mail had been sent to my old address (I have a redirection set up for 6 months so that is not possible!)

He agreed that it did seem unfair but the non payment had been sent to the credit agencies and could not be retracted. Is this right ? and do I have to now have a non payment 'on file for the next 6 years because of no fault of my own?

I have never been in debt, never missed a payment and because of this error in their system I am now going to be penalised.

I know that to some it is a minor credit thing but I do not want this noted as it was not my fault.

Any suggestions ? Preferably not, 'get over with it, it isnt a biggy'......because to me IT IS:mad:

    Update:

I paid the outstanding amount of £68.14 immediately on the phone with the Santander representative on the 30th September. Great, all clear and bill settled.

TODAY they took £68.14 from my account.

I contacted them (cost of phone call and further stress)and they said it was a genuine error and the money will be back in my account within 12 days:mad: Unless I wanted to leave my account in credit:rotfl:

No, sorry, or apology just that it was a genuine error on their part!!
So my unfortunate error which was beyond my control and resulted in the strike on my credit reference is just tough sh*t.

Well thanks very much SANTANDER CARDS through Debenhams....

12 days? Seems an excessive amount of time, charge them for late payment!!

Of course they can retract the default notice. Or at the very least add an explanatory note. Ask them, in writing, to do so. Then cancel the card, advising that you're doing so because of poor customer service.

A single late payment shouldn't impact your credit score hugely. The change to your address, and the electoral role move would IMHO have a larger dent anyway :)
