Blocking my telephone number on occasions

In the same way that you can check who last called by dialling 1471 I am sure you used to prefix a call with 141 to block your telephone number from being sent out (unless I am going mad ????)
Yet on my phone when I have tried this recently (last few weeks) if I type 141 as a prefix I get an incorrect number dialling tone !?

Have the providers (I am with NTL) stopped this service (or more than likely found another revenue stream through it) or am I just imagining that this service used to be available ???

Think I'm going mad........

You're not going mad. 141 can be used before dialing to hide you're number. This service is offered by all fixed line and mobile operators. Possibly a fault on the NTL network, also some numbers can't be witheld, i;e 999, 112.
