Amex cancellation query

Hi All,
I am considering getting the amex card listed in this weeks newsletter.

However I understand there will be a £20 charge if not used for 12 months.

I was planning on getting the card and using it until Xmas to get the vouchers. I then wanted to stop using the card. Clearly if I just cut it up and don't use it 12 months down the line I will get a £20 charge. However If I cancel the card will there be any charges?
Thanks for any help.

Just spend £20 on it and pay the full amount when you get statement....what is the point of applying if not going to uses it....waste of time for them....

Blimey, just get the odd bag of shopping on it and pay it off in full. Otherwise don't bother.

Don't know if I explained myself properly. I will use it until Xmas...for all my shopping as it gives good vouchers as a reward.

However after xmas would rather get rid of it as don't want an extra card (another card to get stolen/cloned etc).

I wondered if anyone knew if there would be a charge for cancelling after 3 months.

I understand you'll use it short term, but don't bother if you don't intend on keeping it. If tyhe quantity of credit concerns you, close one of your existing cards that offer no benefits. As for closing within a year, I doubt it but there may be something in the T&Cs, log on and read through them first.

Personally, I still think if you get one, just keep it and use it. You ever had a card stolen and cloned before?

Have you clicked through the link in the e-mail and navigated to the T&Cs?...

Anything in sections 36 & 37 (and elsewhere) that concerns you?

Yup...had a card cloned whilst abroad and had a purse stolen (with cards in it) before....maybe I'm just unlucky!!
My other card is a goldfish reward card and I get points with that, so would rather stay with that.
    Thanks for the advice though.

Yeah I did have a read...couldn't see anything to put me off...but thought I'd check in case anyone knew anything I was missing! Thought better to be safe than sorry!

Fair enough. You could just call and ask if there's a minimum term, I've always found Amex's contact centres very helpful. That's why I'd keep it to be honest, good cards, especially if you travel (as you've suggested you may).
