New seller limits

I opened a new ebay account a couple of months ago as I've been thinking about maybe starting an ebay business, so I thought that separating my different types of purchases/sales would be a good way to start and build up some feedback before I commit.

However, I've encountered a problem with my first listing on my new account. I'm totally unable to make any alterations to the listing details! I wanted to add some close up photos of a scratch on the item as a prospective bidder asked for one (it was an error not including it in the first place), but ebay won't let me.

I talked to ebay support and apparently it's due to the "new seller" limits on the number of listings I can start in certain categories. There isn't anything to do but end the listing and start again if I want to add the photo. Is it just me or does this seem really silly?

It isn't really silly as it was designed to stop the scam sellers registering new accounts and listing in bulk. Unfortunately it means that genuine sellers sometimes get caught up in the limits as well.

There are other limits as well you may come across like the paypal 21 day hold for payments etc.

It is though a very good idea to do as you have done and seperate buying and selling. It might be more useful though to convert the older account, the one with feedback to the business selling account as you look already established then.

I suppose I can see some sense in it, but it's still really annoying!!

I would convert my old account but tbh I don't have much feedback on there either. I've had the account for 8 years and I buy regularly (sell infrequently), but sellers don't seem to leave feedback anymore. I only picked up on this recently tho - I made 10 purchases from different sellers on the new account in the first month I had it and only 3 have left me feedback.

Editing your listing shoudnt alter the number of listing you have so puzzled as to why that would cause a
problem, Unless you tried to list the same item twice with better pictures on the 2nd listing?

That i presume would flag up an alert to them.

Other people on the community boards have alsoo said that merely changing a listing counts towards their listing limits.

Nope I just tried to revise the listing. Ebay support told me that counts like a listing, hence me calling it silly

It's to make sure sellers don't get round the listing limits on certain items by listing as one thing and then editing to make it another different thing entirely.
