Should I switch back to BT?

Hi

I've been with TalkTalk for a year or so and had no problems. I still pay line rental to BT. Because my wife and I both have company mobiles, we rarely use the home phone (in fact if I didn't need it for ADSL, I'd get rid).

Here's what we pay now:
£11 to BT (Line Rental)
£1.75 to BT (Caller ID)
£3 approx to TT (yes, we really do use the phone that infrequently!)

Anyway, I got a leaflet from BT offering Option2 free for a year plus I can opt into BT privacy for free to get caller ID. - meaning £11 a month for line rental, caller ID and calls.

The only reason I can think of for staying with TT is that the 2 numbers we ring most are also on TT - though mostly we call each other in the evenings.

Will TalkTalk offer a price match, or should I just go back to BT?

Im in the same boat as you!!

Been with Talk Talk for a while now on Talk Talk 3 (teenage kids = high phone bill) no problems, bills coming in around £25 a month.

Thinking of switching back to BT. Bit wary of going back with the option you suggest as there is a 18 month minimum contract.

Forgot to mention that i pay my line rental to Talk Talk as well

The BT offer is if you agree to a minimum 18 month contract.

Your best option is probably to join the Primus Saver 2 tariff for your calls (instead of TalkTalk) - they also offer free evening and weekend calls while your line rental stays with BT as it is at the moment.

As you say BT also offer BT Privacy at Home which includes free Caller Display. I would sign up to this instead of paying for caller display and just ensure you prefix 2 calls a month with 1280 to route those calls over BT's network and to satisfy their usage requirements.

One aspect about the BT Option 2 is that it ALSO includes 100 free SMS/TEXT messages from your landline phone too - fortunately my Siemens DECT phone has SMS feature.

ie £3.9x/month for 18months BUT first 12 months credited back so £24/18m
ie £1.50 a month less upto 100 SMS saving 3p-10p/each = in credit! Oh and free 01/02 <60mins calls in the evenings/weekends :)

Review the situation again in 17m.
