in Credit cards
applied for and accepted for an EGG credit card (just to improve my credit score) I was going to use it now and then deliberately and pay off in full or near full.
but i just stumbled upon this and now I am genuinely frightened that they might do something really nasty to me..

Noo don't cancel it.
Those reviews are just a very small number of customers who are disgruntled. The number of people who are satisfied with their service far outweigh those who aren't.
Every credit card company has its good points and its bad. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Something like reviewcentre is very dangerous to go by.
Most people complain but very few praise. Cards including Egg are listed under best cards. But then going on to the reviews you see disguntled reviews, mostly from people incapable of accepting they are an adult and yet can't handle their finances so !!!!! and moan.
I would say out of the reviews only 5% are actually worth taken note of and they are those whereby the do actually have a justified complaint.
For what it's worth, I've had an Egg card for years, had no issues, they have been very fair with me and I've always received decent customer service when needed.0 -
Thanks guys, its a good point, people are very likely to post a complaint but who is going to think "i like my credit card company, ill write them a good review on the internet".
To compare I searched Capital one who i have had a card with for 12 months and I have nothing but praise for them, polite, sorted my fraud case very quickly and generally a joy to deal with. Same as EGG though, online they had hellish reviews. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I have the Egg money card and have held for a few years now. Also use their Money manager and find them brilliant.0

I found them very good too, it was only their creeping APR that made me switch a few years ago.0

I don't think the concept is bad, but that site would not make me any wiser - the best card by ratings, More Than Credit card? What is that? The first page sorted by decreasing ratings is half of football affinity cards with one review each. The only card immediately recognisable to me is the Aqua, that's certainly better than Egg, right?
Let's continue on the second page - Co-Op affinity, Lloyds TSB Create? I'm sure these cards did not exist (or not for new customers) in the past few years... Optima platinum? That's not even for the UK. No cards after the first two pages have more than three stars.
That just does it for me - sometimes it's easy to see you don't need to give attention to (or even trust) every site you can find :cool:Enjoy the silence...0 -
I've got an egg money card the one with 1% cashback and its great. Never had a problem with them. I pay it off in full but use it for everything and the cash back really adds up.0

LOL - "They like 'customers' that they can make money from; and they like to make a lot of money from each one."
Opposed to those businesses that like customers they make no money on!0
